Gathering Web Data into Excel

You can quickly gather data from the web into an Excel spreadsheet if the web data is presented in a tabular format. The web site: http://www.apples4theteacher.com/holidays/presidents-day/past-presidents-of-usa.html is an example of data presented in a tabular format. It lists the presidents in the left column and their corresponding years in office in the right column.

To retrieve the data from the web page into the spreadsheet from Excel version 2007, choose the Data tab and then choose From Web as shown in Figure 1.

The dialog box shown in figure 2 will come up where you input the web site address (URL). A window to the web site appears below the URL. You will see yellow arrows to the left of tables on the web page. Chose one or more of the arrows and then choose Import from the window.

The data from the web page will then be imported into your speadsheet!

A completely awesome application (it is FREE ofCourse) is shown in Figure 3. eTikr continuously gathers stock quotes from the symbols that you specify into a speadsheet!
